Shells, subshells and configurations
Write electron counts and configurations using the taught filling order. A shell contains subshells; an orbital holds at most two electrons. Cote’s/Hebden’s reactive-electron convention treats a filled noble-gas shell as having no available reacting electrons; the modern outer-shell count is a different convention.
